The upcoming TV anime adaptation of The Dinner Table Detective (Nazotoki wa Dinner no Ato de), based on Tokuya Higashigawa’s popular mystery novel series, is set to debut in April 2025. The series will air on Fuji TV’s prestigious Noitamina programming block, which is shifting to an earlier 11:00 PM timeslot for its nationwide broadcasts.
Cast and Staff Highlights
The anime boasts a star-studded voice cast:
- Kana Hanazawa as Reiko Hōshō, a rookie detective and heiress to the Hōshō Group.
- Yūki Kaji as Kageyama, her sharp-tongued butler and crime-solving partner.
- Mamoru Miyano as Inspector Kazamatsuri, her eccentric boss.
Madhouse, known for classics like Death Note and Hunter x Hunter, will animate the series. Mitsuyuki Masuhara (Ace of Diamond) is directing, with Mariko Kunisawa (Ascendance of a Bookworm) overseeing the scripts. Original character designs are by Oreko Tachibana (Promise Cinderella), with Takeshi Hama composing the music.

Originally published in 2007, the novel series has previously inspired a stage play, a live-action TV drama (2011), specials, and a 2013 film. This will be the first anime adaptation, a move that aims to bring the charm and intrigue of the novels to a broader audience.
