Sakamoto Days to get a Netflix adaptation this year. Will it be anime or live-action ?

On May 1, the licensing news service License Global featured an interview with Netflix Vice President Josh Simon. In the interview, a “Sakamoto Days” project was mentioned among Netflix’s upcoming releases for 2024.

The listing doesn’t clarify whether the project is animated or live-action, nor does it specify any connection to Yuuto Suzuki’s manga of the same name. In addition to “Sakamoto Days,” Netflix has also listed “One Piece Season 2” for its “2025 and Beyond” releases.

“Sakamoto Days” is a popular manga created by Yuuto Suzuki, which first appeared in Shueisha’s Weekly Shonen Jump magazine in November 2020. The manga follows the story of Taro Sakamoto, a legendary hitman who retires to live a peaceful life running a convenience store. However, his past keeps catching up with him, leading to thrilling and often comedic adventures.

Yuuto Suzuki first introduced the world of “Sakamoto” through a one-shot published in Jump Giga in December 2019. The success of this one-shot paved the way for the serialized “Sakamoto Days” manga. Shueisha recently published the 16th volume of the series on April 4th, 2024, adding to the growing collection of this fan-favorite series

Viz Media and MANGA Plus are publishing the manga in English digitally. Viz Media is also releasing the manga in print, with the 11th volume published on April 2.
