Marvel Comics has announced a collaboration with TOHO International to release a crossover comic titled “Godzilla vs. Fantastic Four,” written by Ryan North and illustrated by John Romita Jr. This one-shot is scheduled for release on March 19, 2025, and will serve as the inaugural issue in a series of six one-shots featuring Godzilla confronting various Marvel heroes, including Spider-Man, Hulk, the X-Men, and Thor.
The storyline promises a “city-smashing spectacular” as Godzilla teams up with the Silver Surfer to avert global catastrophe. Variant covers by artists Mark Bagley, Nick Bradshaw, and Lee Garbett will also be available.
In “Godzilla vs. Fantastic Four #1,” the narrative centers on King Ghidorah’s arrival on Earth as Galactus’ newest herald, endowed with the Power Cosmic. The Fantastic Four are tasked with preventing him from annihilating New York and the planet.
Each one-shot in the “Godzilla vs.” series is set in different eras of Godzilla and Marvel Comics, paving the way for a limited series slated for release in the summer of 2025. The project features contributions from creators such as Jason Aaron, Fabian Nicieza, Joe Kelly, Gerry Duggan, Giuseppe Camuncoli, and Aaron Kuder.
This collaboration marks a significant event, as Marvel previously held the rights to publish Godzilla comics from 1977 to 1979, producing a 24-issue series during that period. In 2024, Marvel released an omnibus collecting the original series, rekindling interest in Godzilla’s interactions within the Marvel Universe.
The upcoming crossover is anticipated to blend the rich histories of both franchises, offering fans unique storylines that explore the dynamics between Godzilla and Marvel’s iconic characters. The involvement of acclaimed writers and artists suggests a high-quality production that aims to captivate audiences across both fandoms.
Marvel describes the story as
The comic is the first in the Godzilla vs. series of six one-shots that see Godzilla face off against Marvel heroes including Spider-Man, Hulk, the X-Men and Thor. Each one-shot is “set in different eras of Godzilla and Marvel Comics. The one-shots will pave the way for an epic Godzilla and Marvel limited series, launching this summer. The other talent involved in the project include Jason Aaron, Fabian Nicieza, Joe Kelly, Gerry Duggan, Giuseppe Camuncoli, and Aaron Kuder.
