In a recent interview, Glen Schofield, co-creator of the acclaimed Dead Space series, disclosed that Electronic Arts (EA) declined a proposal for a fourth installment in the franchise. Schofield, along with original creative director Bret Robbins and animation director Christopher Stone, approached EA earlier this year with ideas for Dead Space 4.
“We tried actually, you know, the three of us, yeah, we tried Dead Space 4,” Schofield stated. “Well, we didn’t go too deep; they just said no, we’re not interested right now, we appreciate it, blah blah blah.”
Stone added, “The industry is in a weird place right now. People are really hesitant to take chances on things, so you’ve got to, you know, take it with a grain of salt. Who knows, maybe one day, I think we’d all love to do it.”
Despite the success of the Dead Space remake released in January 2023, which received critical acclaim, EA’s decision appears to be influenced by the remake’s underwhelming sales performance.

Additionally, the disappointing commercial reception of The Callisto Protocol, a spiritual successor to Dead Space developed by Schofield’s studio, Striking Distance, may have contributed to EA’s reluctance to invest in a new installment.
The Dead Space series, renowned for its atmospheric horror and innovative gameplay, has a dedicated fan base. However, the current market and recent sales figures seem to have influenced EA’s decision to hold off on reviving the franchise at this time.
For fans hoping for a continuation of Isaac Clarke’s harrowing journey, this news is undoubtedly disappointing. Nevertheless, Schofield and his team remain optimistic about the future, hinting at potential ideas for the series should the opportunity arise.
