During the “Jibaku Shōnen Hanako-kun Kamome Gakuen Natsu Matsuri” event on Sunday, exciting news was shared about the Toilet-Bound Hanako-kun anime. The second season of the series, based on Iro Aida’s manga, is set to debut in January 2025.
Additionally, a short anime sequel to the After-School Hanako-kun spinoff will premiere on October 7, 2024. Promotional videos for both the second season and the short anime sequel were showcased at the event. The logo for the upcoming second season was also revealed.
Toilet-Bound Hanako-kun Second 2 Details
The second season of Toilet-Bound Hanako-kun will start airing in January 2025 on 28 TBS affiliate channels, with new episodes every Sunday at 4:30 p.m. JST.
The cast from the first season will return, while Yōhei Fukui, who directed episode 10 of the first season, will take over as the main director at Lerche, replacing Masaomi Andō. Yasuhiro Nakanishi (series scripts) and Mayuka Itou (character design) will also return.

After-School Hanako-kun Short Anime
The four-episode After-School Hanako-kun short anime will air on TBS starting October 7, 2024, in a late-night slot. The cast and staff from the previous season will reprise their roles.
The spinoff manga After-School Hanako-kun started on Pixiv Comic in February 2018 and concluded in October 2021. It was compiled into a single volume by Square Enix in August 2019 and was published in English by Yen Press in April 2021.
The first After-School Hanako-kun anime premiered in October 2023 and was streamed by Crunchyroll, which released the episodes ahead of the Japanese broadcast in various regions including North America and India.

Series Background
The original Toilet-Bound Hanako-kun anime first aired in January 2020, consisting of 12 episodes. Funimation streamed the series with English subtitles and an English dub. The anime’s official website announced in December that the project was being “restarted.”
The story, described by Yen Press, follows Nene Yashiro, a high school girl interested in the occult, who summons Hanako-san, a spirit said to grant wishes in a school bathroom. However, she discovers that Hanako-san is actually a boy.
The manga began in Square Enix’s G Fantasy magazine in 2014, with the 22nd volume released recently. Yen Press plans to release the 20th volume in English on September 17.
