Those familiar with the Sayuri manga know it thrives on an atmosphere thick with dread, meticulously building tension as the supernatural claws its way into the lives of the protagonists. With Koji Shiraishi at the helm, the film adaptation is likely to capture the essence of the manga.
Oshikiri says the film will be a breath of air for horror fans who are tired of watching protagonists lose battles against paranormal forces. He believes “Sayuri” will challenge the conventions of the genre and bring something new to the table.
