The Boy and the Heron might not be Hayao Miyazaki’s last film, his son talks about new action-adventure film

Legendary director Hayao Miyazaki, known for oscar winning animated films like Spirited Away and The Boy and the Heron, might be embarking on another cinematic adventure.

Goro Miyazaki, son of Hayao Miyazaki, recently shared some tantalizing details with Oricon in Japan. This came ahead of a special exhibit at the Ghibli Museum dedicated to “The Boy and the Heron.”

He shared that his father began creating panorama boxes as a hobby during the seven-year production of the film, initially basing them only on his past movies. Goro commented to the media, “I’d tell him, ‘Make some for future projects. Only making them for your past stuff is boring.’ He’s making some now though.” Goro then added, “I don’t know if it’ll actually be for his next film, but it’s looking like an action-adventure-type movie, nostalgic and reminiscent of the old days.”

This news comes as a welcome surprise to many. Miyazaki previously announced “The Boy and the Heron” as his final project. However, it appears the creative fire still burns brightly within the director.

Despite the excitement, Studio Ghibli remains tight-lipped about the specifics of this new project. After spending seven years working on “The Boy and the Heron,” Miyazaki is currently taking some well-deserved rest. Yet, the idea that he is already toying with concepts for his next film is thrilling news for fans worldwide
