Marvel Studios has officially announced the development of “Black Panther 3,” marking the continuation of the acclaimed franchise. This confirmation follows actor Denzel Washington’s recent revelation of his involvement in the upcoming film.
In a recent interview, Denzel Washington revealed that a role was being written specifically for him by director Ryan Coogler. Calling Coogler a “genius,” Washington expressed his admiration for the filmmaker and excitement to work with him. The actor also hinted that this role would be one of his final projects before stepping away from the spotlight, emphasizing his focus on collaborating with top-tier talent in his remaining career.
The news of his casting suggests that Black Panther 3 has been in active development for some time, even though official details have remained under wraps.
Marvel Studios executive Nate Moore, who has played a pivotal role in the Black Panther franchise since its inception, confirmed his involvement in the upcoming sequel despite announcing his departure from Marvel. Moore will be leaving his executive role after the release of Captain America: Brave New World in 2025 but will continue to work on Black Panther 3 in a different capacity.
Speaking to Deadline, Moore shared his gratitude for his time at Marvel, saying
Nearly everything I know about producing I’ve learned from my time at Marvel Studios. I feel lucky to have worked with a group of people who love filmmaking and storytelling as much as my Marvel colleagues and the cast and crew of our films. But I couldn’t be more excited to apply my experience and passion for film towards theatrical movies in all genres, including returning to the world of Wakanda for Black Panther 3.
The Black Panther series has been a monumental success for Marvel Studios. The original film, released in 2018, grossed over $1.3 billion worldwide and was celebrated for its rich storytelling, compelling characters, and cultural impact.

Its sequel, Black Panther: Wakanda Forever, honored the legacy of the late Chadwick Boseman with a heartfelt tribute. However, due to the sudden demise of Chadwick Boseman, the second installment went in a different direction, with Shuri taking up the mantle of Black Panther.
The third movie will most likely come full circle with T’Challa’s son officially becoming Black Panther. The confirmation of Black Panther 3 comes as the Marvel Cinematic Universe (MCU) undergoes significant changes, with other potential sequels like Doctor Strange 3, Shang-Chi 2, and Thor 5 reportedly in development.
While plot details and a release date remain under wraps, the involvement of Washington and Coogler signals that Black Panther 3 is well into its planning stages. We can expect more updates as the film progresses. Marvel Studios’ confirmation of Black Panther 3 solidifies its position as one of the most highly anticipated projects in the MCU’s future.
