An early, unofficial synopsis of the Thunderbolts plot, sourced from industry insider Daniel RPK.
The film follows Yelena, US Agent, Ghost, and Taskmaster, who are dispatched by Val on a mission to kill a target in a vault. However, they soon realize they’ve been set up to be eliminated. This twist forces them to unite against their boss, Val. The vault’s occupant is revealed to be Sentry, a formidable super-soldier whose presence adds significant stakes to the plot.
The Thunderbolts plot is intricately linked to a broader government conspiracy within the MCU. This storyline, which began with The Incredible Hulk and extends to the upcoming Captain America: Brave New World, involves the creation and exploitation of super-soldiers.
Key elements include the government’s interest in adamantium and the ongoing development of the Weapon X program (of which Wolverine is the result). Weapons Plus Program seems to be the main plotline that will guide Captain America: Brave New World and Thunderbolts.

Sentry in MCU
The role of Sentry seems fitting in this whole story as he was a product of Project Rebirth in the comics. MCU will most likely stick with a similar backstory for Rober Reynolds, a.k.a, Sentry.
Sentry gained his powers from a serum that granted him the strength of “a million exploding suns.” This enhanced version of the Super-Soldier Serum transformed him into one of Marvel’s most powerful heroes.
Sentry’s abilities include superhuman strength, invulnerability, flight, energy projection, telepathy, and molecular manipulation. However, he harbours a dark alter ego, the Void, representing his fears and darker impulses, which adds a layer of internal conflict.
The Void’s emergence often leads to catastrophic events, making Sentry’s struggle a central theme of his character, illustrating the duality and psychological complexity of his role in the Marvel Universe.
Sentry is also a part of Dark Avengers team which could indicate a future story about Dark Avengers, maybe?
The Thundersbolts plot seems to be setting up a lot of narrative threads and that’s good. Since the plot is unofficial, take it with a grain of salt. We might see more infromation during the San Diego Comic Con.
