11 Bit Studios has announced a two-month delay for Frostpunk 2. Game directors Jakub Stokalski and Łukasz Juszczyk revealed the delay in a recent development update on Steam, citing the need for additional time to implement changes based on feedback from the game’s beta.
Originally set for a July 25 release, Frostpunk 2 is now scheduled to launch on September 20, 2024, for PC, PlayStation 5, and Xbox Series S|X. The directors explained that the game is becoming “bigger and better,” but to ensure the best possible experience at launch, the extra development time is necessary.
The update also outlined several new features coming to Frostpunk 2, including more detailed and flexible workforce management, extensive UI and UX enhancements, and a new city feature called ‘Zoom Stories’.
This feature allows players to observe their citizens up close, addressing concerns from the beta feedback about losing attachment to individual characters due to the game’s larger scale.

“In the Beta survey, you pointed out that after shifting the game’s scale, you lost attachment to individuals,” the directors noted. “‘Zoom Stories’ are basically zoom-ins available in specific city parts that allow you to watch the day-to-day life of your citizens.”
Earlier this month, a hands-on preview of the game’s story mode highlighted Frostpunk 2’s natural expansion from its predecessor. The preview described the game as retaining its core essence while evolving from a micro to a macro scale, ensuring it still feels like Frostpunk.
It is always better to have the game delayed a few weeks than to have a poor experience.
