George R.R. Martin hints at an Elden Ring film or TV adaptation with a playful blog post about possible project.

The celebrated open-world soulslike game, Elden Ring, is back in the spotlight with talks of a possible film or TV adaptation. This speculation follows the release of the game’s major expansion, Shadow of the Erdtree, which has renewed player interest.

In a blog post dated June 29, George R.R. Martin, who contributed to the world-building of Elden Ring, hinted at the adaptation rumors with playful denials.

Oh, and about those rumors you may have heard about a feature film or television series based on ELDEN RING… I have nothing to say… Not a word, nope, not a thing, I know nothing, you never heard a peep from me, mum mum mum. What rumor.

George R.R. Martin wrote

This tease aligns with earlier statements from Hidetaka Miyazaki, president of FromSoftware and director of Elden Ring. In an interview with The Guardian, Miyazaki mentioned that while FromSoftware might not possess the expertise to produce a movie or TV series independently, there is definite interest in such a project. He emphasized the need for a strong partner to bring such an adaptation to fruition, highlighting the potential for a collaborative effort to translate the game’s rich lore into a new medium.

The possibility of an adaptation is particularly exciting given the expansive and intricate world of Elden Ring. With its complex characters, deep lore, and immersive storytelling, the game offers a wealth of material for a potential film or TV series. It remains to be seen whether these teases will materialize into a full-fledged adaptation. Given the success of other game-to-screen adaptations in recent years, the prospect of an Elden Ring film or TV series is not too far-fetched.
