Dragon Age: Veilguard releases October 31, 2024, featuring epic battles, new companions, and rich RPG elements. Pre-orders now available.

BioWare has officially announced the release date for its much-anticipated action RPG, Dragon Age: Veilguard. Set to launch on October 31, 2024, the game will be available on PC, PlayStation 5, and Xbox Series X/S. Fans can now pre-order the game on their preferred platform, with various editions offering exclusive bonus items.

Veilguard trailer and gameplay details

The release date announcement was accompanied by a gameplay trailer, nearly three minutes long. The trailer showcases the epic scale and rich fantasy elements that have become synonymous with the Dragon Age series.

Highlights include a fierce battle against corrupt Elven gods, breathtaking visuals of high-fantasy locations, and appearances by iconic creatures like fire-breathing dragons and an endearing baby griffon.

Perhaps most exciting for long-time fans is the unexpected appearance of Morrigan, the enigmatic Witch of the Wilds, and a fan-favorite character from previous games. The trailer also hints at significant plot developments, with Solas, a returning character from Dragon Age: Inquisition, conducting a ritual that takes a dramatic turn.

Story and Setting

Dragon Age: Veilguard is set ten years after the events of Dragon Age: Inquisition. Players will assume the role of Rook, a custom-created character who must unite a band of seven companions to take on the looming threat of corrupt Elven gods.

Despite the game’s shift towards action-focused gameplay, BioWare has assured fans that Veilguard will retain the core elements that define the Dragon Age series, including branching dialogue options and complex romance systems.

Creative Director John Epler emphasized the importance of player choice, stating, “We wanted to give you the choice to really express yourself, and do that in a world full of adventure and danger.”

Pre-Order Options and Bonuses

Pre-orders for Dragon Age: Veilguard is now live, with three editions available: Standard, Deluxe, and the Gamestop-exclusive Rook’s Coffer Collector’s Edition.

  • Standard Edition ($70 on console, $60 on PC): Includes the game and a pre-order bonus of the Blood Dragon Armor sets for Warrior, Mage, and Rogue classes.
  • Deluxe Edition ($90 on console, $80 on PC): Comes with additional in-game content, including three Rook armor sets, six Rook weapons, seven companion armor sets, and seven companion weapons.

What’s Next? Upcoming Reveals and Roadmap

BioWare has laid out a detailed roadmap leading up to the game’s release, promising fans a wealth of information in the coming weeks. Next up is a “High-Level Combat and PC Spotlight” set to be unveiled next week, followed by a “Companions Week” starting on August 26.

The journey to Dragon Age: Veilguard has been a long one. Originally announced in 2018 under the title Dragon Age: Dreadwolf, the game has undergone several changes and delays. The title was eventually changed to Dragon Age: Veilguard to emphasize the new cast of characters rather than focusing on Solas, the Dreadwolf.

BioWare has revealed that the game will feature over 140,000 lines of dialogue, customizable difficulty options, and the ability to import choices made in previous games. The game will also be Steam-native and include a diverse voice cast.
