Update- Doom: The Dark Ages got its first trailer at the Xbox Games Showcase 2024.

Rumours are swirling that the next entry in the iconic Doom series is imminent. Reliable insider Tom Henderson has revealed that ID Software’s next major project will be titled “Doom: The Dark Ages.”

The Dark Ages has reportedly been in development for approximately four years, aligning with the release of Doom Eternal in 2020. The game, developed under the codename “Year Zero,” will feature a “medieval inspired Doom world.”

This setting is a significant departure from the futuristic and demonic landscapes fans are accustomed to, promising a fresh experience.

The “Year Zero” codename suggests two possibilities: the game could be a prequel, showcasing an earlier Doomslayer battling demons in a historical setting, or it might involve time travel, transporting the current Doomslayer to the Dark Ages.

Either scenario would provide a unique twist for fans who found Doom (2016) and Doom Eternal somewhat repetitive.

Multiple reliable sources, including Henderson, indicate that Doom: The Dark Ages will be unveiled at the upcoming Xbox Games Showcase in June. This is a huge deal for Xbox fans as the platform hasn’t seen any huge hits on Series S|X. It was also disappointing to see Tango Gameworks shut down, which gave Hi-Fi Rush, a superhit for Xbox. We hope the next one is Doom: The Dark Ages.

The inclusion of Doom: The Dark Ages in the Xbox Showcase lineup, which is also expected to feature the next Call of Duty and possibly a new Gears title, would be a major highlight.
