A new TV anime adaptation of Masamune Shirow’s cyberpunk masterpiece is set to premiere in 2026! The new series is being produced by animation studio Science SARU, the studio behind acclaimed anime like Devilman Crybaby and Keep Your Hands Off Eizouken!

The original Ghost in the Shell manga, which began serialization in 1989, explores a world grappling with the rise of cybernetics and the blurring lines between man and machine.
The story follows Major Motoko Kusanagi, a cyborg police officer leading a special unit tasked with combating cybercrime. The series has spawned numerous adaptations, including a critically acclaimed 1995 anime film and several television series.
The news comes alongside the announcement of a documentary celebrating the 35th anniversary of the Ghost in the Shell franchise. The documentary will include a special preview of the new series, giving fans a first look at what to expect. There will also be a large exhibit of Shirow’s work in 2025, so fans can look forward to a year of Ghost in the Shell celebrations.
