According to leaks, a Final Fantasy IX Remake is finally happening, while a Final Fantasy X Remake is not currently in development.
The news comes from leaker Midori, who has previously established credibility with SEGA leaks. This is Midori’s first leak regarding Square Enix.
The rumours of a Final Fantasy 9 Remake have been circulating for years, ever since an Nvidia leak in 2021. Now, leaks suggest the game will be a PlayStation exclusive with traditional gameplay, unlike the action-oriented Final Fantasy VII Remake.
The remake is said to have updated visuals and character models but with a smaller budget compared to Final Fantasy VII.
There is no official confirmation from Square Enix regarding either remake.
Final Fantasy IX originally launched in 2000 for the PlayStation 1 and introduced a medieval setting called Gaia, a shift from the futuristic worlds of previous instalments.
The story follows a thief named Zidane Tribal who becomes entangled in a war and joins forces with Princess Garnet to take down her warmongering mother, Queen Brahne.
