Ubisoft has provided more details on the anticipated remake of “Prince of Persia: The Sands of Time” following a teaser at the Ubisoft Forward conference, which confirmed the game’s release year as 2026.

After announcing the release timeline, the development team shared some key information. There will be a significant improvement in gameplay mechanics and character development.

Creative Director Bio Jade Adam Granger highlighted that the remake has undergone major changes to the 3Cs (Character, Camera, Controls), requiring extensive prototyping to ensure the new controls align well with the original gameplay.

Game Director Michael McIntyre emphasized the need to modernize the combat system, which will now reflect the advancements seen in recent action games such as “Dark Souls” and “God of War”​.

One of the most notable enhancements is the expanded role of Farah, the game’s primary female character. The remake will feature more interactions between Farah and the Prince, aiming to deepen their relationship and provide Farah with more agency and depth.

Granger mentioned that Farah would be a true companion with a well-rounded background, making her a more significant presence in the story.

Despite these ambitious plans, the development has faced several setbacks. Initially announced in 2020 with an expected release in 2021, the game was met with criticism over its art style, prompting Ubisoft to rework the project.

In 2022, development was moved from Ubisoft Pune and Ubisoft Mumbai to Ubisoft Montreal, effectively resetting the project​.

Ubisoft recently celebrated the original game’s 20th anniversary by announcing that the remake has passed an important internal milestone, suggesting that significant progress is being made​​.
