Arrowhead Game Studios, the developer behind the hit multiplayer shooter Helldivers 2, has announced its “biggest update yet” for the game, titled “Escalation of Freedom.” This update, set to release on August 6, 2024, brings a wealth of new content to both PlayStation and PC platforms.
Helldivers 2 Achievements
Helldivers 2 has become the fastest-selling PlayStation game of all time, moving 12 million copies in its first 12 weeks. Its popularity continues to grow, thanks to ongoing updates and strong community support.

New Combat Rating
The update introduces a new, more challenging difficulty level, “CR 10: Super Helldive,” described as the most relentless yet. This harder difficulty comes with enhanced rewards for players who can conquer it.
New Mission Types and Enemies
In response to community feedback, Arrowhead has expanded the variety of mission types available. New enemies are also being added, including the Impaler, a returning fan-favorite tentacled beast, the fog-shrouded Spore Charger, and the Alpha Commander, a tougher version of the Brood Commander. Additionally, the Automatons are receiving new artillery units like the Rocket Tank, which fires long-range rockets.
Quality of Life Improvements
One significant improvement addresses the issue of “grief kicking,” where players misuse the team kicking feature to disrupt others. Now, if a player is kicked, they will spawn into a new session as the host with all the team’s loot from their previous session. This ensures that no player loses out on loot due to being kicked from a game.
The new “Escalation of Freedom” update is meant to enhance the Helldivers 2 experience significantly, offering new challenges, enemies, and quality-of-life improvements that aim to foster cooperative and engaging gameplay.
