Astro Bot is coming to PS5. Explore 6 galaxies, 80 levels, and discover new powers. Release on Sept 6. Pre-order from June 7.

Since Astro Bot’s debut on the PlayStation 5, Astro has become somewhat of a mascot for the PlayStation. At the State of Play, Team Asobi has unveiled a new, super-sized space adventure for Astro, promising the biggest and most thrilling journey yet.

Astro Bot is releasing on PS5 on September 6 this year.

Astro Bot is now a full-sized platformer, adventure game

Astro’s new escapade takes him across six galaxies and over 80 levels, each teeming with unique environments and challenges. From lush forests and sandy beaches to hot volcanoes and even the canopy of a singing tree, players will guide Astro on a quest to reunite with his scattered crew.

The reveal showcased stunning images that highlight the game’s vibrant settings and innovative gameplay. In one scene, Astro rides his Dual Speeder above the clouds, surrounded by a flock of pink flamingos.

Another image shows him standing on a grassy field, facing a giant tree with glowing blue eyes, hinting at the game’s whimsical yet mysterious atmosphere.

Astro Bot Gameplay and Features

Team Asobi has incorporated over 15 new abilities that take full advantage of the DualSense controller’s features. These abilities include the Barkster, a Bulldog Booster for air-dashing and smashing through obstacles, the Twin-Frog Gloves for long-range punching and swinging, and the Giant Sponge for absorbing water to cause massive destruction. Each power is designed to enhance the platforming experience, making it both exciting and accessible.

The game features over 70 new types of enemies, including massive bosses like Lady Venomara, a deadly cobra queen who awaits players in her golden lair.

Defeating these formidable foes will unveil secrets that add depth to the narrative, though Team Asobi is keeping those details under wraps for now. For those seeking even greater challenges, the game includes die-and-retry levels that will test players’ reflexes and determination.

Astro will encounter many familiar faces throughout his adventure. The trailer teases appearances from beloved characters, hinting that they may play significant roles in the quest.

One image shows Astro with a robotic hound on his back, while another features a Kratos-Bot wielding a Leviathan Axe, suggesting that the crossover moments will be both surprising and delightful.

PlayStation’s classic wackiness in Astro Bot

At its core, the new Astro Bot game embodies Team Asobi’s commitment to creating joyful and engaging experiences.

We believe in the second-to-second fun and joy of video games. With this new Astro Bot game, we invested all our love and craft to bring a constant smile to your face, as you run, jump, bop enemies, and find the many secrets and jokes we dotted around.

Astro Bot will release on September 6 and you can pre-order the game starting June 7.

Unfortunately, no PSVR2 support

Astro Bot Rescue Mission was a PSVR title that took full advantage of VR and DualSense controller. Many fans of Astro Bot are disappointed to not see PSVR2 support for the full-fledged game.

The PSVR2 seems to be getting no attention from the PlayStation as it has not received any major exclusive game except for Horizon: Call of the Mountain, which was received quite well.

It needs to be seen if Sony will update the game with PSVR2 support in future.
